Alexandra Popp Scores Twice as Germany Dominate Group H

Morocco Make History Despite Heavy Defeat

Germany kicked off their 2023 Women's World Cup campaign with a resounding 6-0 victory over Morocco, setting the pace in Group H. Alexandra Popp led the charge with a brace, while Lea Schüller, Lina Magull, Jule Brand, and Sara Däbritz also got on the scoresheet.

Morocco, making their first appearance at the tournament, put up a valiant fight but were ultimately outclassed by the reigning European champions. Despite the lopsided scoreline, Morocco's performance was a testament to their progress in recent years.

Germany's dominance was evident from the outset, and they took the lead within the first 15 minutes through Schüller. Popp doubled their advantage shortly after, and Magull made it three before half-time. The second half was more of the same as Brand, Däbritz, and Popp added further goals to complete the rout.
