Feyenoord Thrash Ajax 4-0 in Eredivisie Clash
Gimenez Hat-Trick Seals Victory for Home Side
Rotterdam, Netherlands - April 7, 2024
Santiago Gimenez stole the show as Feyenoord handed league leaders Ajax a 4-0 thrashing in a thrilling Eredivisie encounter on Wednesday. The win extends Feyenoord's unbeaten run to 12 matches and sees them move to within five points of their bitter rivals at the top of the table.
It was a dominant display from Feyenoord, who controlled possession for large periods of the match. They took the lead after only 15 minutes when Gimenez headed home from a pinpoint Orkun Kökçu cross. The hosts doubled their advantage just before the break through Jens Toornstra's deflected effort.
Ajax struggled to create any clear-cut chances throughout the game. They were further handicapped in the second half when Lisandro Martinez was sent off for a second yellow card. Gimenez took full advantage, completing his hat-trick with a simple finish in the 65th minute. Substitute Alireza Jahanbakhsh added a fourth in stoppage time to seal an emphatic victory.
The result is a major setback for Ajax, who had been unbeaten in the league since December. Feyenoord, on the other hand, are now in a strong position to challenge for their first Eredivisie title since 2017.
