Early Life and Education
Ketanji Brown Jackson was born on September 14, 1970, in Washington, D.C. She graduated from Harvard University in 1992 and Harvard Law School in 1996.
Professional Career
After graduating from law school, Jackson worked as a clerk for Judge Patti B. Saris of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and Justice Stephen Breyer of the Supreme Court. She then worked as a public defender in the District of Columbia and as a private attorney in Boston. In 2009, President Barack Obama appointed Jackson to the U.S. Sentencing Commission. In 2012, she was appointed to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. In 2021, she was confirmed by the Senate to serve as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
Supreme Court Nomination
On February 25, 2022, President Joe Biden nominated Jackson to the Supreme Court to replace Justice Stephen Breyer. If confirmed by the Senate, Jackson would become the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court.
