Newark Celebrates 250-Year Anniversary
Historic City Commemorates Milestone
Newark, Delaware – June 8, 2023
Newark, Delaware, is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year. The city is hosting a series of events throughout the year to commemorate the occasion.
The festivities kicked off with a parade on Main Street on June 3rd. The parade featured floats, marching bands, and historical reenactors.
"This is a special day for Newark," said Mayor Polly Sierzega. "We're proud of our city's history and heritage, and we're excited to celebrate this milestone with our residents and visitors."
Other events planned for the anniversary celebration include a concert in the park, a historical walking tour, and a fireworks display. The city is also working on a commemorative book that will be published later this year.
Newark was founded in 1773 by a group of Methodist settlers. The city played an important role in the American Revolution, and it was the site of the Battle of Newark in 1777.
Today, Newark is a thriving city with a population of over 30,000. The city is home to the University of Delaware, which is one of the largest universities in the state.
