4 Types of PAGASA Flood Bulletins and How They Work
Types of Flood Bulletins
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issues flood bulletins to inform the public about potential flooding hazards. There are four main types of flood bulletins:
- Flood Outlook
- Flood Advisory
- Flood Warning
- Critical Flood Warning
Flood Outlook
A Flood Outlook provides information about areas that may be affected by flooding within the next 24 to 48 hours. It is issued when PAGASA forecasts heavy rainfall that could lead to flooding.
Flood Advisory
A Flood Advisory is issued when flooding is imminent and is usually issued 6 to 12 hours before flooding occurs.
Flood Warning
A Flood Warning is issued when flooding is already happening or is expected to occur within the next 24 hours. It indicates that flooding is widespread and may cause significant damage.
Critical Flood Warning
A Critical Flood Warning is issued when flooding poses a grave threat to life and property. It is typically issued when floodwaters are expected to reach dangerous levels.
